Oxford Jacobin Reading Group - Beyond Corporate Feminism

Saturday 31st January 2015 - 5:00pm-7:00pm - Main space
Contact: matthewdavies1993@gmail.com

The Jacobin Reading Group is a new forum for the discussion of contemporary socialist ideas in a lively, welcoming, and non-doctrinaire environment. Well be using articles from Jacobin Magazine as a starting point, but you dont need to be a regular reader or have prior knowledge of socialist theory to come along.

In our first session well be critiquing feminism under neoliberalism, and looking at how racial, class, and other oppressions interact with sexism and misogyny in modern capitalist society. In particular, well be looking to move beyond white, marketable brands of feminism - such as HeForShe, Sheryl Sandbergs Lean In, and NoMorePage3 - and explore what a feminism with a genuine commitment to liberation might look like.

Were holding the discussion group in the Oxford Action Resource Centre, upstairs in the East Oxford Community Centre. There will be tea and other refreshments, and everyone is welcome!
